SOME–NOT ALL– of the "on-line" or "at home" colleges or degrees are NOT accredited, recognized or accepted at other schools and colleges. So you may learn something and even be able to get a job using these methods. But if you ever plan on going father er with your education they would do you no good. You would have to start all over again. Also since SOME of these colleges have no standards to meet their level is below the normal academic standards.
So be sure if you use this method you check out the history, academic standard, and transfer of credit availability. And don't take that schools word on it, check them out with other schools and see if their credits transfer. I went to a college who told me their credits would transfer to any regular college, only to find out later that they won't. So check it out well, and carefully. There are some very good trade and on-line schools. Just be very sure to do your homework first.
Good luck.

awesome stuff man,….ama practice hard to get to yo level!
As far as I'm aware, employers actually admire people for studying in their own time whilst working, so this would work in your favour whatever the course was that you went for.
I'm considering completing an online course also and I never wanted to go to uni, it just wasn't for me.
It shows initiative to do it in your own time whilst working as well, and iof you do this instead of going to uni, it shows you know what you wnat from life and you knew you didn't want to go to uni, instead you wanted to get into the workforce and work to pay for your education.
Not only is it possible but it is done all the time. However, MAKE SURE the college is ACCREDITED by the same organizations that accredit actual colleges, because a lot of scam schools have been set up. I found out years ago that a community college will often admit a high school dropout without a HSD if they pass the entrance test!!!!! This is what good students in a bad school district should look into it saves time and etc.

oh my dear Lord.. i almost came in my pants D=

I enlisted in the Navy in 1973 in the Nuclear Propulsion Program. I received Machinist Mate "A" School training and Nuclear Power School and Prototype training. I then went to a carrier for the rest of my 6 year enlistment.
I then went to Penn State University and received my BS in Nuclear Engineering. They accepted my Naval training and experience awarding me 12 credits.
The Internet is a wonderful invention. If you take your subject of your question and add to what you want to know about it, the search engine will do the rest. For example:
My subject is Primary and Secondary Education. I want to know where to get certified as a teacher.
The search engine result is as follows:
Teaching + state certification requirements
What you get is this: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Teachin...
This will work for any subject category. Give it a try and good luck
I like that approach better than just saying "Google it" or "Look online".
