As someone who makes a living as a small business marketing consultant, the people who hire me are more interested in experience. If you can show them references from other companies you have worked with, a portfolio of your work, have your degree AND show how you can make them more money by spending less, you will succeed. I have 25 years of small business sales, management and advertising experience, a 2 year degree from a private business college, and have as much work as I can handle, and I work from home. The key is going in and confidently being able to show them how you can make them more money while spending less.

From a retired high school history to teacher to a future high school history teacher.

As long as the on line courses and degree are from an accredited school they will legally be accepted.

Although I do not have statistics to prove the point my feeling is that an on line degrees are usually not as good as brick and mortar ones.

You lose out with the personal contacts with both the faculty and other students.

I met many people while taking brick and mortar degrees who became friends and have maintained those friendships over the years.

To our mutual delight one of my classmates and I wound up teaching in the same school for about 10 years.

You may also be able to make valuable contacts to share ideas and to help each otter secure positions and to advance.

It may also be that an on line degree might be held against you when someone looks at your resume or you are being interviewed.

The advantage of the on line degree is that you can pursue your aspirations according to your own schedule, Another advantage, if it is important to you, is that you will meet people from different parts of the country.

I believe Phoenix Online does. And I am pretty sure you would still do practicum work and student teaching. I just did my masters through Walden online and loved it. It was very convenient and I learned a lot. Online schools are really making their way up there these days!

Your bachelors degree can be earned anywhere – just make sure the college is accredited.

Your teacher credential is another matter – because all states require a student teaching portion – there are currently no online programs to handle it entirely online. (credential is a post bac 2 year degree) There may be a few programs that do *some* online work – but not all.

As a rule, an online teaching degree is not well accepted by schools. The difficulty with an online degree is the lack of face-to-face interaction with other students. Also, observation of current master teachers, and modeling teaching within the class are important components of learning to teach. These elements might be missing at an online university. Teaching is an art and a craft. There is much to be learned outside of books, from watching current teachers, and from practicing teaching yourself. My strong suggestion is to find a part-time evening program that will allow you to practice the craft while you are learning, so you are abundantly prepared when you enter the classroom as a teacher.

I would look into the University of Phoenix. They have an Education AA program, so I would presume that they have a Bachelor's program for it as well.

plenty of online schools offer bachelors degrees and masters degrees with a teaching emphasis – but that is not sufficient to teach. You need a credential.

I have been answering this the same way for the last year – There are no schools that offer one.

You cannot become a teacher online only.

But are online degrees really legit? Do companies really take them seriously?
