  1. But are online degrees really legit? Do companies really take them seriously?

  2. Many colleges offer the opportunity for you to test out of specific classes, but testing out of college entirely? I'd be wary of any school that offered that.

There are accelerated degree programs. For example, here in NY, there are several. Where are you based, or are you willing to move?

  3. Few on-line MBAs have any credibility, though some very good schools are offering them now.

The best online MBA is probably Heriot-Watt, but this is not well-known in the USA.

Accelerated MBAs are also generally worthless except for those few "Executive MBAs" from top-tier schools.

  4. Sorry, I've never heard of an accelerated masters program in the sciences. You have to get a certain number of credits to get the degree, and that usually means two years worth of courses.

  5. As you can see by the nature and tone of the replies you've already received, your question was answered in a rather traditional frame of reference with little to no regard to providing you i) hope, ii) encouragement, and iii) some advice on how to make your online experience successful.

I'll give it a shot with my reply.

First, please know my bias (it's my disclosure statement to the traditionalists). As a student I took classes online -at the graduate level. As an instructor, I've developed and delivered classes online -at both the undergrad and graduate level. As a fairly well-educated, well-read, and I like to believe, open-minded adult, there is no doubt in my moind that online education is bona fide ….

And, I may as well get my shot in here to try and provide some salve from the rather inconsiderate shots you've already taken … if those that claim online education is less than their "education"; that it's as random and cheap as the prize in a Cracker Jack box ; that there's only one way to get a "true" education: that somehow, online education is "less-than" education … than I pose this: Why in the **** is public education in america so dysfunctional?

    It's not the students.

For all the yahoos that completed the traditional gig of getting their degrees and then made their way into policy-making positions, what have you done for education lately?

For all the yahoos that completed the traditional gig of getting their degrees and then made their way into teaching -at any level- from Pre-K through PhD, what have you done -beside lecture- for education lately?

And for all the yahoo educators -at any level in any capacity, that trash online education at all costs … two questions, i) what exactly do you know [not theorize or ponder] about online education, and ii) what have you done for education lately?

Yes, online education -for that matter, teaching yourself- can and will prepare you properly for the teaching field. The content knowledge of teaching is mainly theory that certainly needs to be learned and then applied -as such, you need the opportunity to be in front of a classroom, or an audience (maybe you're presently a corporate trainer and that certainly provides the opportunity). My point is, that online education cannot be blithely dismissed by anyone … for some people it is their ONLY opportunity to further their education -and in my book that's a lot more importabt -and productive- than having to say I can't complete my education because I can't get to a classroom.

    Good luck -and do it!

  6. There are no fast or on line or accelerated programs to either of these professions, just like there are none in med school. There is too much at stake & too much hands-on learning. No way to accelerate learning medicine.

For the PA route, you will need to get either a bachelors degree in a science field and apply to a masters PA program OR get accepted into a bachelors degree PA program. You should have the required medical experience as a RT. Contact the aapa.org for details.

The nursing may take you longer–you will need a bachelors of science in nursing (you may get credit for the general ed classes with the AS), you will probably then have to work as a nurse for a bit & then apply into the NP programs (masters/doctorate).

  9. I have an online degree program where you call my phone every night and listen to a pre-recorded message of a lecture. Whats cool about it is that it's like listening to a real live teacher and it's way less, plus if its boring you don't really have to pay attention. I havnt got it accrredited yet because i have to have the phone hooked up but its really cool when its working.

  10. Nowadays, as long as the college you attend is regionally accredited, your degree should be recognized by any potential employers or other academic institutions. In fact most colleges do not differentiate between degrees earned online or on campus. My recommendation would be to contact a number of colleges that offer the degree program you are looking for to weigh the pro's and con's (tuition, schedule, career opportunities, etc.) so you have all the info before you decide anything.

This site has some good information on regionally accredited online degree programs and colleges that offer them:

    Good Luck!
