I think that it really depends on the type of person. If you feel that you would thrive in an online learning environment rather than a tradition university, you should absolutely go for it. Advantages are definitely the flexibility and cost. However, I'm not sure how that works with student teaching and the like, so you should definitely fully research that aspect of it.

Check with your state department of education. Some online degree programs are ligit, others are scams. Before you begin, make sure it is recognized by your state dept. of ed.

Maybe not respected as much as their counterpart, but they're being more accepted and respected than they used to be, and will probably continue to do so. the Phoenix one is probably a good one to use if you were going to.

SOME--NOT ALL-- of the "on-line" or "at home" colleges or degrees are NOT accredited, recognized or accepted at other schools and colleges. So you may learn something and even be able to get a job using these methods. But if you ever plan on going father er with your education they would do you no good. You would have to start all over again. Also since SOME of these colleges have no standards to meet their level is below the normal academic standards.

So be sure if you use this method you check out the history, academic standard, and transfer of credit availability. And don't take that schools word on it, check them out with other schools and see if their credits transfer. I went to a college who told me their credits would transfer to any regular college, only to find out later that they won't. So check it out well, and carefully. There are some very good trade and on-line schools. Just be very sure to do your homework first.

Good luck.

From my experience, online vs. traditional makes no difference unless your talking online vs. ivy league schools. As long as you do the work and get the education, most places don't even inquire as to where you went. Experience is the key... if you own your own business currently, I'd say in corporate America, that would be your best asset!

www.degreeinfo.com

Search over 300 regionally accredited distance learning programs to find the perfect program for you! Just enter the degree level and one or more fields of study:

Great forum for asking questions also
