I am currently looking to get a bachelor's degree in education. I've seen tons of programs advertised, like strayer, university of Pheonix, etc., but do any of them offer a degree in education? Does anyone know if NC accepts education degrees obtained online? Any info would help, thanks.

  5. I would look into the University of Phoenix. They have an Education AA program, so I would presume that they have a Bachelor's program for it as well.

    Good luck!

  7. Hi Mike,
As long as the college (online or campus based) is regionally accredited, any degree you earn should be accepted by any potential employers or other academic institutions.
My best recommendation would be to contact a number of colleges to find the best fit for you and your needs (tuition, schedule, career opportunities, etc.). Too often people enroll in the first school they find rather than taking the time to find the best school for them. Taking that time now could save you a lot of time, money and frustration if you choose the wrong school.
This site has some good info on regionally accredited online degrees and some colleges that offer them to help expand your search:

I think you can enter your info on there for any colleges you are interested in and they will send you more info for free. Good Luck!

  9. Check out http://distancelearningdegree.com/
for information on accreditation, since you will want your degree from an accredited university.

Many universites, including classroom based ones, don't offer paralegal degrees; they offer paralegal certificates.

  10. Excelsior College http://www.excelsior.edu is in NY and was at one time a state college. It is regionally accredited (RA) and a member of the University of the State of New York.

An advantage to you is that they will take transfer credit from just about anywhere (RA) and that allows you to take classes at whatever is the least expensive source at any given time.

They also allow for generous credit by examination such as CLEP and DANTES.

If you're looking to complete the "check this box" for a bachelor's degree, then the Excelsior Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies with no major is the most flexible degree program I've seen anywhere.

Let me add a caution though: The days of really easy online classes from legit schools are over. Most of the time, the online version of a class is much more demanding than the classroom version. One reason is that instead of multiple guess tests that your classroom counterparts take, online classes want papers. Lots of papers.

You needn't consider only the heavily advertised online universities you hear about. Almost ever major college in the US now has online courses and many offer full degrees. SUNY is a very good example of this as is NYIT (not inexpensive!)

Check out this link for all of the options SUNY offers you:

My BSc from Excelsior College has been more than sufficient for employment and grad school purposes.

  12. Western Governors University is regionally accredited. Since the other people didn't know this, you can check accreditation on any school in the U.S. at the CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation) website. If the school is acceptable to the US Department of Education, it will be listed in their database.

    http://www.chea.org/search/search.asp

WGU is considered a pretty good school. The only downside is they charge a flat rate tuition for six months. It doesn't matter if you only take one class or four classes, you pay the same price.

  13. No accredited university sells their degrees. What you need to watch out with these face diplomas is that some companies not only provide the paper, they even have a telephone service that will pose as the university registrar and claim the degree to be valid. If the soldier offers to give you the number to call to verify is degree, don't accept it- or better yet.. DO take the number, then go and look the phone number up yourself. If it's a different number, there's your first sign. Chances are if it is a different number, then when you call the number you found, you'll see that it is indeed fake.
